Today’s walk starts at 10:00 am from Dolphin Inn located at Thorpeness.

Thorpeness is best accesses by travelling north along the A12 towards Saxmundham/Lowestoft and then taking a right turn off along the A1094 which is clearly signposted towards Snape and Aldborough.

Travel along this road for around 3 or 4 miles and then take a left hand turn the B1069 which is signed posted towards Leiston and Thorpeness.

Proceed around 2 to 3 miles into the village of Knodishall and then take a right hand turn onto the B1353 which is now signed posted towards Thorpeness and Aldringham

Proceed about 1 to 2 miles until one meets the cross roads at the Parrot and Punchbowl public house and proceed straight across again following the clear signposts to Thorpeness.

Around 2 to 3 miles along this road one enters the village of Thorpeness and the large Dolphin public house is immediately facing one.

Ample parking is on the adjacent roads or in a small car park at the rear of the public house itself.

The landlord has agree to open a side door in the restaurant to allow people to use the facilities. He has advised that pre-ordering is not necessary as it is a large public house with extensive catering facilities.

We start the walk going south for a short time before we turn west past by “The House in the Clouds” and then join the disused railway line which was closed in 1963 ran between Saxmundham and Aldborough

We follow alongside the track for  around 2 miles before we turn east heading ultimately toward the sea and the coast path.

The walk was at measured at 5.18 miles.

It is easy going, no styles although on our recce there we some slightly overgrown areas along the track side path and some standing water in places (although it had rained heavily the night before.)

Nothing too daunting for our participants.
